Flow of the day
At Stepping Stones, our daily routine is thoughtfully structured to provide children with a balance of learning, exploration, rest, and play. Each part of the day is designed to support children’s development while creating a predictable, safe, and engaging environment.
7:30AM – 9:00AM Arrival and Play
The day begins with outdoor play, where children can explore, interact, and engage in a mix of planned and free-choice learning experiences. This time supports gross motor development, social skills, and imaginative play. Children collectively help to pack away before the Welcome Gathering
9:00AM – 9:30AM
Welcome Gathering
Mat Time
We gather together to start the day. This session includes a warm Hello Song, weather discussion, morning prayer, and an Acknowledgment of Country to foster a sense of belonging and respect.
9:30AM – 9:45AM Morning Fruit Time
Children wash their hands, collect their drink bottles, and sit together to enjoy a piece of fruit. This shared moment promotes healthy eating habits and social interaction.
9:45AM – 10:45AM
Indoor/Outdoor Learning Program
Children engage in both planned and self-directed learning experiences. Our intentional teaching practices support development in literacy, numeracy, creativity, and social-emotional skills.
10.45AM – 11:15AM
Stories & Music
Mat Time
Children gather for storytime, songs, language or music sessions. This session aims to foster a love for language, rhythm, and group participation.
11:15AM – 12:15PM Outdoor Play
Before lunch, children return outdoors to explore freely. This time supports physical development and encourages social connections. On Mondays we welcome Coach Sam from Kidz 'n Sport to facilitate a fundamental movement skills session.
12:15PM – 12:45PM Lunch Time
Children wash their hands, collect their lunch boxes and water bottles, and enjoy their meal together. This communal time supports independence and good mealtime habits.
12:45PM – 1:30PM
Relaxation & Story Time
After lunch, children unwind with a quiet rest period. They may lie down with a cushion and enjoy calming stories read aloud or listened to via speakers or the TV. This helps children recharge for the afternoon ahead.
1:30PM – 2:30PM
Indoor Activities
Children move between the K1 and K2 rooms, choosing from a range of activities that support creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. At the end of this session, children help tidy their play spaces, reinforcing routine and responsibility.
2:45PM – 3:00PM
Reflection Mat Time
A brief group session to reconnect, share reflections, gratitude practice or enjoy a calming story and discussion.
3:00PM – 3:15PM Afternoon Fruit Time
Children enjoy a second round of fruit, giving them a healthy energy boost for the rest of the day.
3:15PM – 3:45PM
Brain Break or
Dance-a-Thon
A fun and energetic session where children dance, move, and enjoy music. This is a joyful way to develop coordination, rhythm, and self-expression. (We welcome song suggestions from families!)
3:45PM – 5:30PM Outdoor Play
Children head outdoors again for open-ended play, promoting physical activity, social connections, and creativity as the day winds down. From 5.15pm onwards children help to pack away in the final tidy up session of the day.
