Our Team

At Stepping Stones, our team of passionate, professional educators is dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education and care. We prioritise children’s rights, safety, and wellbeing, and value each child’s unique background and needs in a culturally safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

Guided by our Centre Director and Educational Leader, our team uses research-based practices that reflect each child’s learning style, abilities, interests, and cultural identity. All educators hold valid Working with Children Checks, and our Responsible Persons are certified in First Aid, Emergency Asthma, and Anaphylaxis management. Ongoing professional development is strongly encouraged and supported for all staff.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors exists to provide strategic direction, oversight, and governance for Stepping Stones, ensuring the centre fulfils its mission, stays true to its values, maintains financial and legal integrity, and delivers high-quality early childhood education in a nurturing and faith-filled environment.

Mim Hosking

Chairperson

With over 15 years’ experience in childcare and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education, Mim brings a deep commitment to supporting children’s holistic development. As one of Stepping Stones’ founding teachers, she has also served in schools and churches as a teacher and Accredited Pastor.

She is passionate about creating strong foundations for children to thrive and is honoured to again partner with the Stepping Stones community. In her role as Chairperson, she works collaboratively with the Board and Director to uphold high standards of care, ensure ethical governance, and support our strategic vision.

Trevor Darch

Deputy Chairperson

Trevor is a seasoned educational leader with over 30 years of experience in government and independent secondary schools. He has held various leadership roles in both curriculum and pastoral care, including Assistant Principal. In 2017, he completed an MBA and went on to serve as Business Operations Manager at an independent college in Rockingham, where he also supported the on-site childcare centre.

Now serving as Deputy Chairperson, Trevor brings a strong blend of educational and operational expertise. He is deeply committed to the mission of Stepping Stones and values contributing to the local community in meaningful ways.

Darren Smith

Secretary

Darren has been Secretary of the Board since July 2021 and a board member since September 2019. As a proud parent of three former Stepping Stones students, he brings a strong personal connection and a commitment to the service’s ongoing success.

Darren is passionate about supporting WA families and giving back to his local community.

He believes that a strong early learning foundation sets children up for future success. His vision is for every Stepping Stones student to grow into a confident, curious, and capable learner.

He brings both strategic insight and a parent’s perspective to his role, helping guide decisions that support the organisation’s values and long-term goals.

Steve Groves

Treasurer

Steve brings a solid background in banking and finance, offering valuable insight into the compliance, governance, and operational challenges faced by early learning centres. His expertise supports the centre’s commitment to strong financial management and long-term sustainability.

Steve’s connection to the centre is also deeply personal as his son attended as a three-year-old and thrived in the nurturing, close-knit environment. Steve joined the board to help ensure that future generations of children and families continue to benefit from the same warm, high-quality care and education.

Pastor Michael Bullard

Board Member

Michael is the Interim Senior Pastor at East Fremantle Baptist Church and an Ex-Officio member of the Stepping Stones Board. An accredited Baptist minister and Safe Church trainer, he has led churches across WA and held leadership roles at the state level with Baptist Churches and Churches of Christ.

He brings a strong pastoral perspective, leadership experience, and a practical approach to ministry and organisational challenges. Michael is passionate about supporting families with safe, quality care for their children, values the connection between Stepping Stones and the church, and enjoys encouraging staff in their roles.

Joseph Daniels

Board Member

Joseph brings extensive commercial experience in financial accounting, compliance, capital management, governance, and strategic advisory across three countries. He has held senior roles in some of the world’s largest energy and resources companies, working in both corporate and operational settings.

Joseph currently serves as Chairperson of East Fremantle Baptist Church Council and is a valued member of the Stepping Stones Board.

Bella Yang
Board Member

Bella is a dedicated early childhood educator with over 11 years of experience in the field. She is currently teaching at Carey Baptist College and previously spent three years working at Stepping Stones, where she developed a deep appreciation for the centre’s mission and community.

Bella’s passion lies in nurturing the next generation with the love of God. Her heart for children and strong educational background drive her commitment to high-quality early learning environments that support the whole child—spiritually, emotionally, and developmentally.

Through her role on the board, Bella brings valuable insight into children’s learning and development. She aims to contribute her early childhood expertise to help the board better understand the critical impact a place like Stepping Stones can have on a child’s growth and readiness for school.
